Muncy’s Twist-on button ferrule design for wire rope

What is a Dyno

Muncy’s Drumline Twist-on button (ferrules) for wire rope is designed for extra holding power, as opposed to the “smooth bore”, drilled out buttons. The shape of the helix of wire rope is cast inside the rope hole of these buttons such that the button itself goes into the valley of the cable. In order to put the button onto the wire rope, the button twists or screws onto the rope, hence the name “Twist-On Button”. The casting’s design further enhances the fitting’s fill-factor, tending to provide extra “holding power” when properly assembled and swaged.

Note: not all ferrules are equal: some are not rated for loads

Muncy makes two types of Twist-On Button Ferrules, Drumline and Chokers (with a heavier chamfer). In addition, Muncy makes each of these in two variations of length: one slightly longer, rated for direct loads, and another slightly shorter, not rated for direct loads, but designed to fit a smaller space in a drum. Take notice that other manufacturers may not rate their ferrules for a direct load as does Muncy. Rigging shops should take note.
